Flight Hearted

This image has been floating around my site and FB pages for a while and might even be featured on a beer lable.

As vomite-ines day, I mean Valentines day approaches and sentiments reach a high I thought there just might be a possible story to go along with this image. And here it is...

Flight Hearted

By A. F. Bedwell

I knew a girl whose heart had a small pair of wings. If often escaped so she tied it with a string.

At first her heart fluttered around and around, but then it got bored and dragged on the ground.

She tried to restrain it, locked it in a gilded cage. It grew so despondent and refused to engage.

She tried to tempt it with a hot man on the street. But it didn’t alter or change its slow steady beat.

She tried to tame her heart to stay perched on her sleeve, but its vulnerable position just caused it to grieve.

There seemed nothing to be done but let her heart soar, with nothing to tempt it and none to care for.

One day her heart flew along the beaches sand, into the hands of a kindly young man.

The girl raced along chasing after her heart, when she saw who kept it, it gave her a start.

This was a man she knew from her past, her dear heart was beating so terribly fast.

“This heart will be cared for like it is my own. It no longer needs to travel or roam.”

He opened his coat and there in his chest was a big gapping whole and a perfect little nest.

There the heart stayed in the man’s care, safe and protected by the love that they shared.
